With over 30 years of proven effectiveness, Aqua-clean has been the trusted solution for clean drinking water systems in livestock farming. Now, Kanters proudly announces a major regulatory milestone: Aqua-clean has received EU-wide biocide registration for PT2, PT3, and PT4 uses. This marks a significant step forward in our ongoing efforts to improve both product performance and compliance within the European market.
At Kanters, we continuously innovate to create products that meet the demands of a changing world. This new biocide registration allows us to introduce an Aqua-clean formulation that’s fully future-proof. With this registration, we’ve also transitioned to a different stabilizer. This means that Aqua-clean remains compliant, effective, and ready to support hygienically clean systems for years to come.
What does this mean?
This registration confirms that Aqua-clean meets strict EU criteria for use as a biocide in:
PT2: Disinfection of surfaces not in contact with animals
PT3:Â Veterinary hygiene, including drinking systems
PT4:Â Food and feed area disinfection, including water intended for animal consumption
As part of this registration process, Aqua-clean’s formulation has been changed within the EU. The silver-based stabilizer has been replaced by a completely biodegradable stabilizer without silver that delivers the same stability and performance.
Silver is a valuable natural resource, and while the quantities used in Aqua-clean were already minimal, we believe every step counts toward a more sustainable future. By eliminating silver, we help preserve natural resources and reduce the environmental footprint of our products, of course while maintaining the same trusted Aqua-clean performance.
Transition timeline for the EU
Kanters is permitted to produce the version with silver for EU countries until April 22, 2026. Within this timeframe, we will gradually transition to supplying Aqua-clean without silver.
End users in the EU may continue using Aqua-clean with silver as a biocide (if earlier already registered as such) until October 22, 2026. After that, using Aqua-clean with silver is only to be used as a cleaner.
What about outside the EU?
Outside the EU, the version stabilized with silver will remain the standard. However, if you are interested in this silver-free version, feel free to contact your Kanters representative to discuss the possibilities.
Aqua-clean remains what it has always been: a powerful and reliable solution for hygienically clean drinking water systems. Only the formulation and registration status are changed within the EU. We remain committed to further improving Aqua-clean to best suit usage in the agricultural sector.
