Putting Nutriforte Pigs to the test
Over a six-month period, we administered Nutriforte Pigs to sows in mating, gestation, and farrowing units, three days per week via the drinking water (3 litres per 1,000 litres, pH 3.7). During this time, we monitored their technical performance in the sow management system. These results were compared to earlier data to evaluate performance improvements.
The results speak for themselves
These findings clearly show that sows receiving Nutriforte Pigs had a lower mortality rate than those in the control group—almost twice as low in one case. The farrowing rate improved in one of the test groups and remained stable in the other. The percentage of sows that aborted followed the same trend. Most notably, the number of live-born piglets per litter increased to 17.8 with Nutriforte Pig, which is more than one extra piglet compared to the control group. The stillbirth rate decreased accordingly, and pre-weaning mortality dropped from nearly 17% to 13.3% and 14.2% with Nutriforte Pigs.
We also saw a 1.5% increase in weaned piglets per litter among sows receiving Nutriforte Pigs, adding up to over 4 extra piglets raised per sow per year. Even after weaning, mortality was lower among piglets from sows receiving Nutriforte Pigs, suggesting a longer-lasting effect of the supplement.
The total additional return per sow per year amounted to €201. After subtracting the product cost, the ROI reached €171.04 per sow per year.
